2021-2022: COVID Plan & Tracker

Update on masking as cases continue to decline ...

Feb. 4, 2022

Good afternoon, Parents and Guardians.

In the past seven days, Ottawa Hills Local Schools was notified of only 3 new cases of COVID-19 affecting students in Kindergarten5th Grade, and 9th Grade. As a reminder: We now report positive COVID-19 cases (with the approval of the Ohio Department of Health) only once a week on Friday.

We are thankful to see that positive case counts are way down in Lucas County, the rest of the state, and across the nation. For example, during the Jan. 24-28 school week, the district was informed of 11 new positive cases. This week (Jan. 31-Feb. 4) as stated above, we had 3 new positive cases.

Our current masking policy states that mandatory masking remains in place (indoors only during the school day) if a threshold of 20 positive cases is met in one week’s time. For two weeks in a row … this threshold has not been met.

Therefore, starting Monday, Feb. 7, masking indoors will not be mandatory but remains strongly recommended.

Thank you for your ongoing patience as we work to keep your child safe and in school.

Sincerely,
Dr. Adam Fineske
Superintendent

About the plan:

The 2021-2022 Fall Start-Up Plan remains subject to change, as have all our plans throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The current plan was crafted using input from a variety of sources, including vaccination data rates within our buildings and community.
